Monaghan Courthouse Reopened.
The Hon Mr Justice John L Murray, Chief Justice of Ireland presided at the official
opening of Monaghan Courthouse by the Minister for Justice Mr Brendan Smith T.D.
On Monday February 21st at 4pm.
The courthouse was originally built in 1829 in the
centre of Monaghan town and has been the seat of justice for the region over the
region with some interruptions. It was largely destroyed by arson in 1981 and restored
in 1985 by Monaghan County Council. The current refurbishment has been extensive
both outside and inside. Inside there are now three modern courtrooms with all ancillary
accommodation for legal, prison service and administration staff.
