Wildlife on Sliabh Beagh
On Wednesday May 25th Knockatallon Development Company launched a very interesting
and beautiful book. Willie McKenna performed the official launch.
Mary Mullen was
project co-ordinator and in her introduction she names the various people who had
an input and contributed to the production.
The book, with illustrations and photos, is entitled Wildlife on Sliabh Beagh – Hills,
Heather and Hope. It traces the history of the mountain and some of the events connected
to it either by forklore or by fact. It details the importance of the area in the
provision of water for a major part of County Monaghan and describes the uses that
a Bog has in every day life and in nature.
The book then contains four chapters covering
the flora and fauna to be found on Sliabh Beagh and demonstrates how this book can
be an invaluable resource material for visitors and locals and how it can be used
as an educational resource in Schools.
